This project is intended to walk the student through a very frequently used skill of a dietitian or nurse in the clinical setting. Students will be able to create a recipe and track all nutritional value for the entire recipe in writing. Students will also be able to educate patients on how to read and understand a nutrition label. Students will be able to figure out the individual serving size nutritional value of the recipe they have chosen.
The group or student will:
- choose a HEALTHY homemade snack.
- write out the entire recipe and measurements.
- research and document the nutritional values of each ingredient per measurement. Turn this in with project.
- add the ingredients nutritional values together for a grand total. (record this on a nutrition label that has been provided).
- decide on an appropriate nutritious snack SIZE or serving size. ex. 1 in ch x 1 inch or 1/4 cup.
- break down the nutritional values into serving size measurements.(record on a nutrition label provided)
- cook/bake the dish and break down into appropriate measurements for single serve to prove the recipe and size are appropriate.
- present to the class the snack and nutrition labels with explanations that would include the teaching of a patient.
